Job responsibilities:

Medical case management:

·　　  Provide medical advice to staff and clients based on the information  provided of the patient’s location and condition (including recommendations  as to evacuation, transfer to different hospital, ongoing travel and in what  manner etc.).

·　　  Speak directly with the patient’s treating Medical Doctor on location,  air ambulance staff, and the patient’s local Doctor with the purpose of  providing medical advice as requested by the CMO or and/or Head of Operations  on an ‘as needs’ basis.

·　　Constant  monitoring of inpatient cases, including obtaining regular medical reports  and updating clients, as indicated by the complexity of the case.

·　　  Provide answers to questions raised by the client in relation to: the  facility, treatment plan, medical conditions, injuries or other related  matters such as interpretation of pathology results, the relationship of  existing medical conditions to a current medical problem etc, and escalate  to CMO if any uncertainty exists.

·　　  Respond to medical queries from patients from time to time.

·　　  Always provide the rationale for the medical recommendations given.  Escalate to CMO if any uncertainty exists.

·　　  Provide services prudently and with due care, skill and attention having  regard to the difficulties of evaluating medical conditions in any one or  more of the following circumstances:

o  by telephone; and/or

o  through intermediaries  (whether or not they are medically trained); and/or

o  where a translator may be  required to facilitate communication between MC and the intermediary.

Escort:

·　　  Escort patient (by commercial aircraft, air or road ambulance) to agreed  destination/hospital.

·　　  Ensure patient’s safety and wellbeing throughout a mission, by being  prepared (e.g. carrying the appropriate equipment, knowing the patient’s  medical condition and potential complications, putting patient’s needs  first).

·　　  Be able to cover rosters for other MCs if an emergency occurs.

·　　  Promote Cover More value and brand by displaying appropriate behaviour  and manners.

·　　  Provide feedback to CMO and Head of OPS following the completion of a  mission regarding patient’s condition, equipment or any other relevant or  logistic issues.

·　　  Take responsibility for medical equipment being maintained in good condition  during patient mission, and fully checked on completion of mission, and consumables  restocked.

·　　  Complete the required documentation pre- and post-mission.

Qualifications:

　　 Degree in Medicine.

　　 Current registration to  practice.

　　 Current Advanced Life Support  Certification.

　　  3–5 years’ experience in emergency medicine, intensive care or acute care setting.

　　 Demonstrated current clinical skills and knowledge in the provision of aeromedical and retrieval medicine, ideally in an international setting.

　　 Previous experience in the medical assistance industry.

　　 Knowledge of safety and quality assurance initiatives and standards in the area of critical care/retrieval medicine, including the ability to conduct audits and data analysis of key outcome measures.
